Welcome to Boonie Hicks

On the site you will find recipes, food preservaton methods and how people lived when you had to make do with what you had.

We will visit early settler towns, cook from scratch and explore a more slower and intentonal way of living.

The intention is not to reenact or claim expertise, but to enjoy the heritage of those that came before us left behind.

Cast Iron, Collecting and Heritage

Antique cookware

Cast iron and antique cookware is a central theme at Boonie Hicks.

I’m an avid collector of both new and antique cast iron and would like to invite new and experienced colllectors to share in the hobby.

Through articles on vintage cast iron, cooking and collecting. I hope to encourage readers to preserve family heirlooms and learn the history behind the cookware they use.

Meet the Writer

Brett Standeven from Boone Hicks

Hi, I’m Brett Standeven, the writer behind Boonie Hicks.

I created Boonie Hicks to explore cooking, settler life and the heritage that connects food, family and place. What began as a personal interest in anitques, cast iron cookware and pioneer life has grown into a space where I can share food, history, and traditions from an earlier time.

I believe history is best understood through everyday life. Through food, traditions, recipes, and family treasures we discover the stories that connect us to the past.

Boonie Hicks focuses on authenticity, curiosity and preserving knowledge that might have otherwse been forgotten.

Every article is written with the hope that readers will learn something new, make an old recipe or feel inspired about their own heritage.

We focus on a simpler time and the routines of daily life.

Thank you for visiting Boonie Hicks. I hope you leave with a new recipe to try, a deeper appreciation of the past, or inspiration to preserve a piece of your own family heritage.
