To me, living heritage is about the things we can still use today. An old recipe can still be cooked, a well-used cast iron pan can still sit on the stove, and practical household skill can still earn it’s place in everyday life. That’s what first drew me to living heritage, and it’s a big part of why Boonie Hicks exists today.
Perhaps that’s why so many of us are drawn to the past. There is a real satisfaction in using something that has served people well for many years, or learning a skill that was once part of everyday life. We don’t have to live as people once did to appreciate what they left behind.

I’m an avid collector of both new and antique cast iron and would like to invite new and experienced colllectors to share in the hobby.

I created Boonie Hicks to explore cooking, settler life and the heritage that connects food, family and place. What began as a personal interest in antiques, cast iron cookware and pioneer life has grown into a space where I can share food, history, and traditions from an earlier time.
I believe history is best understood through everyday life. Through food, traditions, recipes, and family treasures we discover the stories that connect us to the past.
