As a huge cast iron fan I must admit I’m a little biased. I’m cast iron collector but that also places me in a good position to answer the question. Is Staub cookware and any good and should you pay the extra cost?
The short answer is “Yes” If you want high quality cookware brand designed for every day use, then it’s hard to look past Staub. Although Staub is mostly known for their cast iron cocottes the company also makes extremely durable tableware and bakeware

Where is Staub cookware made?
Staub cast iron cookware is made in France while their ceramic range is outsourced to China, however, Staub maintains very strict quality control.
Although Le Creuset is better known, Staub cookware is just as good
Staub is not as well-known as Le Creuset cookware. However, both Staub and Le Creuset make some of the most sought after cookware on the market. Staub is currently more bespoke, while Le Creuset has more of a global reach. However, both cookware brands are truly exceptional and choosing between them comes down to personal preference.
If you are looking to purchase cookware for yourself or as a gift it’s hard to go wrong with a Staub. I have a fair amount of Staub cookware here’s why this owner loves his Staub.

One of the main reasons I love cast iron is tradition. If you look through the site you’ll find 19th-century food, recipes and articles on antique cast iron. These old pans were very finely made and are still useable today. Your Staub may last just as long.

The production process starts with creating individual molds for each piece. In this sense, every piece of cookware is unique and is different from another in its own way.
Each piece of Staub cookware is made individually using traditional techniques. During the production process, the cookware undergoes serious testing to ensure quality standards are met.
The finish of Staub cookware is what separates Staub from other cookware. They really are experts in enamel glazing
The cookware receives a minimum of two coats of enamel over a base layer. This gives the exterior a lasting radiance and deep vibrant color. Staub uses a special majolica technique for coloring. Using this technique allows the brand to achieve a glossy enamel and also the intense deep finish which Staub is famous.
This technique uses three layers of enamel:
- First layer of enamel is applied to protect the raw iron. And to smooth and even the surface
- Second layer of enamel creates a glossy effect

Staub’s mini cocottes are easy to care for and a perfect addition to the kitchen. The enamel surface distributes heat evenly, therefore perfect for serving to keep food hot or cold.

Staub frying pans
This is not your ordinary cast iron pan. It has been produced with the same standards that you expect from the brand’s products. The pans are available including the most popular 10”, 12” sizes. Or 24cm and 28cm in my part of the world.
I’d go for the solid cast iron skillet rather than one with a wooden handle. Here’s a link to check out the prices on Amazon (affiliate link). With a solid handle, you can use your skillet in the oven as well. I have matte black Staub to match my vintage cast iron but the frying pans come in pretty colors too.
The cast iron is heavier than Le Creuset and Staub cookware is beautifully enameled. The glaze also protects modern hobs from scratches. However, it would be prudent to check with your stove manufacturer before using cast iron cookware.
- Please note: no cookware can totally prevent scratches on hobs such as glass and ceramic induction
Features to look for
- Exceptional quality both in terms of the interior and exterior of the pan
- The pan is exceptional for browning and searing
- The enamel is resistant to thermal shocks, scratching, and it does not require any seasoning, therefore, making it more durable

Staub perfect pans
Staub’s perfect pans are the perfect addition to any modern kitchen. Staub pans can be thrown in the dishwasher, unlike bare cast iron. It’s one piece I don’t have but I have my keen eye on. I like the idea of a glass lid to keep in steam and contain splatters.
Features to look for

- The lid features a brass knob on the matte black pots and nickel plated on the colored pots. These knobs can accommodate very high temperatures, so make sure to keep a tea towel or oven mitt close by
Just like the cast iron products, Staub ceramics also undergo the same quality tests and standards. The ceramic range delivers the same quality at a much lower price than cast iron. - The polished surface does not scratch easily
I really recommend Staub cookware. However, just a word of warning, you may be totally converted after your first time using Staub cookware.
I have their matte black cast iron and I also have quite a few ceramic dishes and I’m really happy with them. The handles on the bakeware are a huge design feature and so easy to lift in and out of the oven. If you’re looking for some new cookware then Staub cookware could be right for you.
