Staub cookware is some of the best cookware you’ll ever use. Loved by foodies all over the world, find out what makes Staub cookware is so good.

Staub cookware has become the benchmark and the standard to beat when it comes to enameled cast iron cookware. Staub’s pots and pans are highly sort after, and also praised all over the world however Staub is quite expensive. So is Staub worth the extra cost?

“Is Staub cookware any good and is it worth the price tag?”

As a huge cast iron fan I’m a little biased and love pretty much all cast iron, however is Staub worth it? short answer is “Yes” I think it will bring years of enjoyment and fun cooking great meals

I have quite a bit of Staub cookware, which I love, it will properly outlive me. You can see one of my Staub Dutch ovens on Amazon. It’s a great size and the matte black finish goes well with traditional cast iron skillets and it’s not as showy which I prefer.

Staub cookware is a sight to behold…it is stunning.

From the word go, customers from professional chefs to home cooks have fallen in love with Staub cookware. It is easy to see why, the cookware is topnotch when it comes to quality and looks amazing. I really like the blue and green enamelware. How about the grey enamel? It sounds boring right? Nope the graphite grey is stunning. It maybe stereotyping but the French sure do know style.

They’re not are the cheapest that’s for sure however you want something nice for yourself or looking for a gift then Staub ceramics could be a good option. The French cookware maker may not be as well known outside of Europe. However Staub like Le Creuset make some of the most sort after cookware products on the market. Staub currently is more bespoke than Le Creuset and the cookware is truely exceptional.

Okay, you say Staub is French but is it really? Where is Staub cookware made?

Quick Answer: Staub cast iron cookware is made in France while their ceramic range is outsourced to China, however Staub maintains very strict quality control.

Staub comes from the Alsace region in France. Alsace, is an area in France which is well known for its culinary heritage. Staub’s founder, Francis Staub wanted to design the highest quality cookware.

Francis Staub merged technology; casting iron with enamel to make what is now known as the Staub cocotte or French oven. Today they continue to make Staub cast iron cookware in France.

Staub ceramics are currently made in China. China is no stranger to ceramics some of the oldest pottery unearthed have been found in China. China has a lot of heritage making ceramics I guess most are familiar with the Ming Vase. Although Staub ceramics are not quite the same quality as a Ming Vase they’re still pretty good.

Staub cookware is a result of quality over mass production.

Staying true to the founders dream, the company only makes only the best possible cookware. They don’t have a lower grade range of products like many companies. Only the best will do.

Who should use Staub cookware? Anyone… cooking should fun. Why not enjoy some good cookware too.

You don’t need to be a master chef to enjoy good cookware. If anything having good cookware makes you a better cook, because you’ll want to use your pots and pans more often. If you want some good cookware then it’s pretty hard to look past Staub

Staub glazes are something else. It really separates Staub cookware from other brands.

Whats makes the Staub cocotte a true standout Dutch oven? I think it has to be Staub’s traditional molding methods

The production process starts with creating individual molds for each piece. In this sense, every piece of cookware is unique and is different from another in its own way.

Each piece of Staub cookware is made individually using traditional techniques. During the production process, the cookware undergoes serious testing to ensure the quality standards.

After the molten metal is poured into molds and allowed to cool. The newly cast cookware is removed from the mold and continues into the smoothing process. The process is known as blast cleaning.

Bast cleaning removes unevenness and imperfections, through a precise shot blasting method. Which prepares the cookware for the three internal and external layers of enameling.

The finish of Staub cookware is what separates Staub from other cookware they really are experts in enamel glazing.

Finally, the cookware receives several layers of enamel. Staub comes in a matte black or a glossy enamel finish. So you can choose cookware with a traditional look or cookware with a modern but still homely feel.

The cookware receives a minimum of two coats of enamel over a base layer. This to give the exterior a lasting radiance and deep vibrant colour. Staub uses a special majolica technique for colouring. Using this technique allows the brand to achieve a glossy enamel and also the intense deep finish which Staub is famous for.

This technique uses three layers of enamel;

  • The first layer of enamel is applied as a first coating on the raw iron to give it a smooth and even surface.
  • A second layer of enamel creates a glossy effect.
  • While the third layer of enamel gives the cookware a deep brilliant colour and appearance.

  • Matte black – this is Staub’s flagship colour and I have a fair amount of it in my own collection.
  • Dark blue – the dark blue is 100% glass enamel and one of the best-selling Staub colours.
  • Basil Green – it was inspired by the natural shade of green herbs and vegetables.
  • Cinnamon – which is reminiscent of spices and exotic cuisine.
  • Grenadine – deep burgundy colour is one of my favourites.
  • Graphite Gray – this colour is ultra cool, I think it’s both modern and traditional.

With a solid handle you can use your skillet in the oven as well. I have matte black Staub to match my vintage cast iron but the frying pans come in pretty colours too.

The cast iron is heavier than Le Creuset and Staub cookware is beautifully enameled. The glaze also protects modern hobs from scratches. However it would be prudent to check with your stove manufacture before using cast iron cookware.

  • Please note: no cookware can totally prevent scratches on hobs such as glass and ceramic induction. 

Features to look for;

  • Exceptional quality both in terms of the interior and exterior of the pan.
  • The pan exceptional for browning and searing.
  • The enamel is resistant to thermal shocks, scratching, and it does not require any seasoning, therefore, making it more durable.

Staub’s perfect pans are the perfect addition to any modern kitchen. Staub pans can be thrown in the dishwasher unlike bare cast iron. It’s one piece I don’t have but I   have my keen eye on. I like the idea of a glass lid to keep in steam and contain splatters.

Features to look for;

  • Scratch resistant – the ceramic range seem to be really scratch resistant from my experience.
  • Finger mark resistant – despite having a very shiny gloss Staub’s ceramic range seem to hide any greasy finger print marks.

I really recommend Staub cookware, however just a word of warning, you maybe totally converted after your first time cooking.

I have their matte black cast iron and I also have quite a few ceramic dishes and really happy with them. The handles on the bakeware are a huge design feature and so easy to lift in and out of the oven. If you’re looking for some new cookware then Staub cookware could be right for you.
